Learning to Sign Modes of Transport With Baby

Regardless of gender we as parents are likely to realize quite soon that babies love the idea of going places. Babies love walks, rides, strollers and anything that speaks of adventure. Often we think of modes of transportation in the context of little boys only, but let’s not neglect our girls. By equipping our little ones with signs associated with modes of transportation we give them what they need to convey the wish of going out or share with us observations about their environment and personal interests. I always remember my mother sharing a family anecdote about my brother who’s first word was airplane. Not mama, not papa, not milk or more. My brother is now an airplane pilot and it appears he was showing his vocation even at a very early age.

TransportFollow Their Interests

When it comes to teaching babies means of transport there is no specific order. The best way to approach it is to focus on means of transport to which baby is regularly exposed or baby displays significant interest. For means of transport not commonly available close to home consider using models, toys or videos.

Sign Contextually

You could teach baby the sign for stroller before placing baby in his stroller or the sign for car as you get him settled in the car seat. Plane can be learned by pointing to airplanes as they fly by and boat can be learned by making a little paper boat and floating it in a container full of water.

Today we are giving away a training bike and the giveaway for playful planes blanket is still open. You can click here enter these giveaways.

Here is fun list with modes of transportation you can teach baby to sign:

Feel free to share with us special stories about your baby and the way he or she engages with modes of transport. We would love to hear from you!
