Beat

To sign beat, first hold both hands in a fist, with the non-dominant hand resting in front of you, facing down, and the dominant hand hovering above the non-dominant one. Then flick the bent index and middle fingers of your dominant hand forward as this fist hovers over the non-dominant fist. It is as if you are telling the person you are talking to that you "beat" them in the game or race.

SIGN USAGE

Teach your child the beat sign in the context of watching a game live, on your PC or tablet, or on TV. If you are having a simple game with your toddler, it is also okay to teach the sign in jest, keeping a good-natured spirit and showing this to the toddler. We want our kids to develop a healthy sense of competition in sports early on, as it adds to the excitement and good performance of the game.
