Full

#1 Sign Pertaining to Food: Take your dominant hand horizontally out in front of you, palm down, at around waist height, then raise it to the bottom of your chin (and the added facial expression of a bloated or puffed up face further underscores the sensation of fullness). Remember the baby sign for full by thinking of your food piling up so high it is going from your stomach all the way up to your chin.

#2 Sign Pertaining to a Full Container: Take your non-dominant hand, hold it as a fist around torso height, then with your flat, dominant palm down, skim the top of the non-dominant hand away from your body, as if suggesting that nothing more can fit that container. It's full to the brim.

SIGN USAGE

To help your baby learn full, make the sign at the end of every meal. "Are you full?" Often when babies are finished with a meal and can't communicate it, they can get fussy or even worse, start playing with food, which usually involves flinging it. Teaching full or finished can help a lot with this.

Flash Card

The idea of full is much more easily taught through life experience than through a flash card. At the end of meals, make the finished sign before taking your baby out of her high chair or removing the food. We have included the flash card because we hear they are useful for other things like teaching older kids to read or spell.
