Later
To sign later, take your dominant hand and start with an 'L'-sign, with your index finger and thumb extend at right angles. Take your non-dominant hand and hold it up flat, facing your 'L' hand, with your 'L' hand's thumb sticking to the palm of your other hand. Hold your non-dominant, open flat hand steady as you pivot your 'L' hand 90 degrees, over and down.
SIGN USAGE
Teaching patience is an important skill for young children. Using the later sign lets your baby know that you have heard the request and will attend to it, but they need to wait.

Hi! Would you recommend using the sign for “later” to indicate “soon”? E.g. “Papa is coming home soon.” if not, what sign would you recommend for “soon”? Thanks!
ADMIN – Hi Laura,
I have used both, later and soon. Given the grasp of time with babies both would mean in the future.
Hello
Many thanks for your website.
I’m from France and I’m trying to speak english with my 14 months old daughter. I also use ASL for babysign and she loves it !
I’m wondering how we sign AFTER ? Is is the same sign as LATER ?
Thank you for your answer
Cheers
Cecile
After is not the same as later. The proper way to sign After in regards to time is:
Place both hands in front of your chest with the palm of your dominant hand touching the back of your other hand with your palms facing your chest. For the actual sign you will then move your dominate hand forward while your other hand remains stationary.
