Root
The root sign looks like roots growing deep beneath the ground. First, form both hands into the ASL number 4 sign. Then hold your non-dominant '4' hand steady, with palm facing up, while your dominant '4' hand comes down vertically, interlacing its 'root' fingers with the other hand's fingers representing the soil or ground.
SIGN USAGE
Teach your baby or toddler the root sign when you are showing them the roots of the onions, turnips, and other bulbs or root crops you are harvesting from your kitchen garden, or when they show curiosity about the plants and vegetables you buy at the supermarket.
