Sister
To sign sister, extend your thumb and index fingers on both hands, like forming horizontal 'L' signs in ASL. Take your dominant hand, and starting with your thumb under your jaw, move and tap it down on top of your non-dominant hand.
SIGN USAGE
The fastest way to convert an older sibling into an enthusiastic teacher of Baby Sign Language is to have them teach the sign for brother or sister. Older sisters really want the baby's first sign to be sister. Once they have taught the baby that first sign, they will enthusiastically move onto the next sign.

Flash Card
We use sister when introducing our babies to the concept of family relations. If your baby has a sister, consider replacing the generic image on the flash card with a photo of her sister. When a baby has several sisters, we like to sign sister plus their first initial to mark the difference between sisters.

This website is so resourceful! I have learned so much! Thank you!
Are there different signs for older vs younger sister?
ADMIN – Hi Margaret,
In the context of the family I would use their first initial. If the goal is to teach difference in size and age I would use the sign for young and old plus the sign for sister or the sign for big and small.
It’s great to find a website that is so on the ball.
ADMIN – Hi Charla,
Thanks. We appreciate the compliment.
