How Baby Sign Language Can Help Baby Learn How to Get Dressed & Develop Personal Taste

One of the main reasons parents explore baby sign language as an option for pre-verbal communication is to equip baby with the means to express their uniqueness. We are also looking for ways to meet their needs and keep baby as comfortable as possible. Early in a baby’s life we will begin to notice preferences for certain textures and colors and aversion to others. By giving our little ones the tools to let us know what makes them feel the most comfortable we reduce their stress level and together we can discover the personality traits of our little ones as they develop and discover new things.

If you have a toddler at home that is learning to get dressed you probably know that eccentricity is not uncommon. Pink rain boots are regularly paired with chiffon dresses and vivid scarves. As your little ones begins to explore their own taste you can help them go from meltdowns into effective communication by incorporating baby signs associated to specific clothing items to their ever-growing vocabulary. In addition to learning wardrobe pieces it is also extra useful to teach baby specific colors.

Here is a list of baby signs for clothing items to help you get started on their fashion journey:

And here is a list of colors for us to learn together:

Other useful words for us to teach baby include dirty, get dressed, wet and clean.
