The barber sign is a compound sign combining haircut and person. First, move your dominant hand to the closer side of your head and mimic cutting your hair with a pair of scissors. Then take both open, flat hands in front of your body, facing parallel to each other, and motion your hands downward simultaneously.
Teach your child the barber sign when you are about to visit the barber's shop for a trim. Sign it again when you are at the shop, while your toddler is being prepped, and after the haircut is finished. Remember to teach your toddler to thank his barber, too!
This is a useful flash card taught best in conjunction with the actual experience, or the anticipation of it.
