I purchased BSL for my (at the time) 7 month old baby. I was so determined because I have heard some babies learn at 6 months. He is now 14 month and still only uses the sign “milk” which is fine. I sign to him as much words as I know in hopes of him copying me, but he really does not. BUT, he understands what I am signing. I can honestly say, I probably did not do a program as consistently as I could have, so that could be why. Or I am not doing it right. I feel all children learn at their own pace, and I feel he is just not ready yet. The fact that he uses the sign milk, has seriously been so beneficial. I breastfeed still, so regardless, I know that is what he wants. I feel that the products that I relieved > the poster, sturdy flashcards, and dictionary, are such wonderful resources, and I feel that I made a great purchase. Also, the website shows live people signing words that you may not understand from the pictures. I feel baby sign language is wonderful for all children, and I love learning to sign as well. The only thing I can suggest, is to include a learning booklet that is a teaching guide to better understand how to use a baby sign language program. That is where I feel was the hardest, is not knowing exactly what to do. I can sign words, but have no idea how to converse or make a sentence.

My baby is able to communicate with us even though he does not speak yet. He is one year old but he can let us know when we is hungry and wants some milk, when he wants more cookies, or when he is done. He should know more signs by now but we have been busy and haven’t work with new words as much as we would like to.
MTiffanyia –
My husband and I are very pleased with baby sign, because it helped identify our daughter’s first word, which is the sound ‘da’ followed by the baby sign for dog (little tongue out and pant pant). If we didn’t have baby sign, we would have missed her efforts at communicating. She’s so proud of being able to identify and call out to her ‘brothers’ our two West Highland White Terriers. Thanks Baby Sign.
Mary McGuckin –
I have provided day care to my grandson since he was two months old. I started him on Baby Sign Language at four months. It enhanced his attention, focus, response to facial expression and improved his comprehension. He began signing those signs that carried the most importance and were within his physical ability. His parents participated in learning and using the signs, too. I have used the tools as they became age appropriate. This program is wonderful and I highly recommend it to all parents and grandparents.

I really love the flash cards. My son loves the pictures. The book is great also to reference words I want to learn.

I purchased the kit when my son was about 8-9 months old. Now he’s 16 months and he signs everyday. He loves communicating and learning new signs. I love that the kit gave me the tools I needed to help my son express his needs and wants even before he could talk. I also feel it helped him talk earlier. This was one of the most fun and educational things I’ve bought for my son and worth all the time and effort.
Deanna Rodriguez –
The kit was a wonderful investment. I encourage any one to purchase, it’s a great tool to self teach and the online tutorial is great when you just can’t figure out the movement of a sign.
Kris –
The kit is great! I got it for my Daughter when she was 3 months and she learned the sign for Milk right away! She is now 6 months and while she has not learned any new signs, even though everyday we teach her mommy and daddy and she knows what we mean by it, but wont do the signs for it. But I am not giving up and we review her flashcards and she does pay attention to them. Hopefully she will get the hang of the signs, right now since she loves crawling and now wants to stand up, I think her focus is on that for now. It would be great to see this translated into Spanish too!
Kayleigh Whisler –
Our family absolutely loves this kit! We refer to it almost daily. It travels with us and I am constantly recommending it to friends who ask me about how I taught Elliott. This kit provides all the essentials for not only beginners with BSL, but for those who are already using it. The flashcards are durable, the parental guide is so helpful, and the dictionary is a constant resource and easy to understand. We hand the poster to “refresh” Elliott’s memory on the easy signs he learned early on! Thanks for all the help and support you have provided us with the BSL Deluxe Kit.
Chrissy S –
The book has lots of useful tips and information to help with sign instruction. The dictionary has clear pictures that are easy to interpret. The cards are very thick and nice quality. The poster is colorful and a great reminder to practice signs if hung somewhere. I use this kit to help with early intervention speech therapy. Overall, this is a great product to help promote communication.

We ordered the delux baby sign language kit for our 9 month old after realizing he knew more words in sign language from his daycare class than we did! I was pleasantly suprised at the quality of flash cards. They looked great but withstood the torture of my son as he got older. Even as he’s learning to speak they are a great flash card to help teach him words. We’re looking forward to being able to use the kit with our youngest son very shortly.
Susan Mann –
This package of baby sign language materials exceeded my expectations. Our 2 y/o granddaughter has a speech delay and it has been recommended that we use all forms of communication with her. The flash cards are very sturdy and our 4 year old grandson loves them. He will have a full sign language vocabulary long before all the adults. All the materials are comprehensive and sturdy. I highly recommend this set.
John Jurcheck –
We started signing with our son Oliver right away, when he was just a week old! We also did Elimination Communication with him, so we were sitting on the potty starting at 1 month old, and we were ALWAYS looking at these amazing BabySignLanguage.com flashcards. By a year of age, he could sign every single one of them AND he could say the word for almost all of them AND if we showed him the sign, or even the picture of the signing lady (on the back of the card), he could tell us what was on the front of the card (like baby charades). I’ve had friends try other brands of flashcards and nothing compares to these. JUST GET THE DELUXE STARTER KIT!! It’s a great deal and has everything you need for lifelong fun and learning with your child! *****5 STARS!!!*****
Justine Brock –
I absolutely love this product and would recommend it to anyone!! The poster is great to have with the examples of common words for grandparents, babysitters, and siblings. My 12 year old, 5 year old, and 18 month have excelled with this product and actually ENJOY learning and teaching others a new language!! Thank you for making this product so readily available.

I just started using my Baby Sign Language kit with my little boy around 6-7 weeks ago. My son is now 7 months and 1 week old. As of yet he has not shown me any signs, but I am hopeful that in the coming weeks or months I will start to see his first signs. I am currently trying to teach him: mommy, daddy, milk, up, fan and dog and I have also just begun to use signs like: all done, more, and eat/food. If nothing else, he does seem to like watching my husband and I make the signs. The quality of the kit itself is nice and having access to babysignlanguage.com to confirm how to make the signs is nice since it can sometimes be a bit confusing how to do so simply from looking at pictures. I’m sure I will give this product rave reviews ONCE my baby starts signing back…but as of right now…it is still one-sided…and that is okay since he enjoys the entertainment offered from watching us sign.

Baby Sign Language has been instrumental in communicating with my children. It’s hard trying to figure out of baby wants or needs and sign language breaks up that barrier. The flash cards are easy to use! All 3 of my boys (6,3, and 1yrs old) love to use them. We started when my 3 yrs old (Logan) was about 2 yrs old and it was impossible to understand anything, mainly gibberish, that came out of his mouth. Being able to say what he was trying to with his mouth, with his hands stopped tantrums before they happened. Even though our 1 year old sometimes has trouble signing, he loves to see us do it and figure out what he is trying to communicate. My whole family enjoys and actually uses this product. We love it and would recommend it to any new parent or even toddler parents!!

I used this set to teach my son to sign. We were very happy with the materials and the results. He learned it all very quickly, and we loved, loved, loved doing it. One think to keep in mind, you don’t have to buy the set, there is enough information on the site to get you everything you need to know. This is one of the things I loved about this company and what made me buy the set. The book has some extra tips and is more detailed, the dictionary is handy, and the flash cards are very nice. But, there isn’t any magic in the kit that is not available on the site. They help, but you still need to work with your child.

My son is almost three but has had multiple hospitalizations due to a heart condition. We knew early on that his speech would be delayed so I started teaching him sign when he was young. At first I had to constantly look them up online and then I ordered the book & flash cards which were a wonderful addition; I still enjoy seeing the demo online but I am no longer running to the computer every time I need a reminder on how to do a sign. As well as my son really enjoys the flash cards. I Love the fact that they use ASL signs so he is actually learning another language but I REALLY love that he doesn’t need to whine & point at everything he wants. It has really kept his frustration in check being able to communicate what he wants.
Michelle James –
I love this kit so much we started signing with our daughter at 6mths and even my husband does it thanks to the chart on the fridge. We will continue to sign and can hardly wait to use the flash cards as she gets older!
Nichole J –
We purchased the BSL kit for our son. We love the pictures, and ended up using the wall chart and flash cards more than the Reference Dictionary. Overall, we were happy with the BSL products and we still find the flash cards as useful for vocalizing as they were for signing.
Helen Garcia –
I purchased the Sign Langauge Kit for my then 8 month old and used the flash cards the most. We have used them in so many ways since then, he’s 27 months old now. We used sign language casually and noticed he picked up on the signs and used them to communicate effectively. We first used the flash cards to identify signs and connect them to the pictures. We also played games where I would perform the sign and vocalize the word and searched for a certain card. I was amazed to see him find the correct card or which words he know and identified by sign! Once he started talking he would often take the flash cards out and still play with them. When he started to verbalize he didn’t say the words perfectly of course but he coupled his babbles with sign language and it helped me identify what he was trying to say. Now he’s speaking in complete sentences and still enjoys the flash cards. He now sorts through the cards and identifies each picture verbally. Sign language has been instrumental in his language development and encourage all parents to use this as early as possible. You will be surprised how much your little one already knows and sign language is an amazing way to communicate before the words start flowing! Have fun its an amazing process of language development!

I have been using the Deluxe Baby Sign Language Kit with my toddler clients and their families in my speech therapy private practice and just LOVE it! What a great kit! I have shared this kit with the parents of my clients and have used the picture cards in lots of different activities designed to develop speech, language, and functional communication skills. The cards are super durable and the pictures are great. I like the way they have a picture on one side and the sign for the picture on the other side. I use them by category (like animals, clothes, foods, etc.) and by theme (like ‘going to the farm’ or ‘getting dressed’) for my speech therapy activities. The kids love them! The dictionary is great for sharing new signs with parents & looking up signs to use for different situations. I love the way it is organized – it’s SO easy to find the signs I need! The manual is full of suggestions about how to use the pictures and signs with kids during everyday activities and I often share the ideas with the families with whom I work. I’ve had several families ask for the web site and for ordering information for themselves. Thanks for putting together such a great kit!! I HIGHLY recommend it!
Brandi Williams –
Being able to communicate with my baby before he was able to verbalize his needs has been an absolute blessing. We are now expecting another baby and will use the Deluxe Baby Sign Language Kit agian.

Our ten-month-old Henry loves the flash cards! We bring them out after lunch while he’s still in his high chair (otherwise he would eat them, haha). He has learned three signs: milk, diaper, and all done. Unfortunately, he’s very stubborn and refuses to let us guide his hands most of the time. Otherwise he might know a few more. But either way, it’s just another fun thing for all of us to do (the way his dads and my schedule are, lunch is our ‘family time’). We all really like the whole kit, and babies are super in love with learning at this age so now is the time to teach them anything you can while its fun. Oh, by the way, I’ve learned ALL the signs! 🙂
Melanie Mooreside –
I have taught 2 year old classrooms and younger. I use the kit as part of our circle time. I try to teach the children 2-3 sign language words per week that go along with out theme of that week. The kit provides a great variety of words. I absolutely love the flash cards because the children can see the picture of the word we are learning. This has not only provided a learning experience for the children but also myself. I have never used sign language before and it is fun to learn along with the children!!
Sharon McLevain –
This is a well-made, thorough kit that provided everything we needed to get my son signing. If anything it was too much! We’ve especially enjoyed the poster; he points to the different pictures and does the signs while saying the words. Even though he is now 2 yo and very verbal, he still uses his signs when I can’t understand him. And now I plan to use the kit with his little brother, and hopefully will be able to utilize even more the second time around!
Melissa B. –
We love the baby sign language kit. The flash cards were especially helpful. It made it easy for all of us to learn the signs in a fun and easy way. My daughter really enjoys signing. You can tell she feels proud when she is able to communicate. Even now that she is talking, she uses some signs to emphasize her points or when she is really upset. I believe the signing also accelerated her speech. Friends, family and teachers consistently comment on how articulate she is for her age.
Sophia Plate –
Loved the kit when I got it,- when my son was about 4 months – he is now about a year and four months. I have to tell the truth, our efforts were concerted for the first 6 months, but it was difficult because both parents are working full time and we have a nanny who speaks no english, and has a different cultural background. It was difficult to get her as enthused about it as we were and difficult to follow through. We kinda gave up….and that is probably to everyone involved’s disadvantage. Sorry this is a bit of a negative review, but my thoughts on the product have not changed – i still think it is excellent – and we have in fact started to play more with the cards again. Maybe baby number two?
Cassandra G –
I have five children. when my last was born she was deaf, I had no idea how to handle it and was very upset. We used basic signing since my children learned it in a day program but nothing major. When I received my set, I was in love at first sight. The book is very helpful and explains a lot. The poster is very easy to read and the pictures are clear. The flash cards are made well and are clear. I have started signing more with my kids so they can know how to communicate if someone uses it. Thankfully my daughter has had ear tubes put in and her hearing is normal. I highly recommend this to everyone. It is good for adults to learn too.
Emma K. –
Baby sign language is really useful. I teach at a pre-school and we started to teach all the kids last year. It is very useful, and the children even go home and teach their parents. I think this what ever child will learn in pre-school in the future. The materials are very good quality. All the children play with the flashcards, and even though some are rough or clumsy, they all look new. I like that all the pictures are real life and not kiddie.
Louise and Jack –
We love baby sign language. And we love these materials. Thank you ever so much.
Meg –
Get the kit. Do baby sign language. Best thing you can do with your little one!
Linda Harris –
We bought this after using the website to teach our son Paul signing. The book was so helpful. I learned a lot of new things. The Pepperberg method worked for us and helped us teach a lot of new words in just a few days. The flash cards are really great and Paul gets them out to make us quiz him all the time. Thank you so much. We appreciate all the work you do.
Jenny’s Super Mom –
Like everyone else we though this was just too cool. My husband and I read everything on the internet about Baby Sign Language and planned to sign with our first born. We signed from the day he was born and he did his first sign when he was 8 months. We thought it would be sooner, but it was completely worth it. Every time he signed and we understood it brought such a big smile to his face. My friends are amazed and sign with him just to see him do it. I am glad we got this, but just so you know, it is all mostly on the site already and we didn’t really learn anything new. The flash cards were much better than I expected. The dictionary was handy to have around when we needed a new word. And the poster went in our son’s room.
Elle –
We live in Singapore and came across this on the internet. There aren’t really many people doing this here, but we decided to try it anyway and are so glad we did. We were surprised when our son actually really started doing the signs. At first we thought we he was just moving his hands, but then we saw that they were really signs. All the books and the flash cards were top quality and were very useful. Now please make something so we can teach him to read.
Annie Butler –
We did baby sign language with our eldest Karen and are now doing it with our new born Sam Jr. It has been such a help with Karen, knowing what she needed and being able to communicate with her. My mother does it with our kids and says she wishes it was around when she raised us. She even got a kit for her other grandchild. Karen is now almost two and is so verbal and we think it because of her signing. She still plays with her flash cards and we are now using them to teach her letters. This is a great system. Get it, you won’t regret it.
Susan Lee –
My son is 13 months and already he knows all 50 flash card signs plus a few other ones we taught him. He loves his signs and we are so proud of him. We are so glad we did this. You don’t really NEED the kit to do baby sign language, the website has everything you need to know. But, the flash cards are much better than the ones we printed at home. The book had a few extra tips. And we are glad to support baby sign language.
Kevin and Sara –
We didn’t think it would work but took a chance because it said we could get our money back. It took about two months of doing the first few signs and then he started signing. At first he only knew more and milk, but after another month he know 10 words, and now he know almost all 50 flash cards. Everyone is so amazed when they see him sign. Now my sister is signing with her youngest.
Maria Morales –
I love the program very helpful for the kids and very easy to use.
Jayne Chen –
I am making the “I Love You” sign. Baby Sign Language is part of my 14 month old son’s life, and I am so grateful we did it. Thank you. If anyone is interested, my advice is just do it.
Katharine –
The materials are really good. So is the website. Baby loves his sign language and I need to do more of it with him! Just learn a few signs by heart and keep using them over and over. Eventually baby picks them up and uses them too! Makes communication so much easier and it is such a hoot watching baby do the signs! Great stuff.
Raintree Montessori –
I am a longtime fan of your website, so when I bought the kit I knew it would be good. But, I was blown away by the quality of the materials. The flash cards are a favorite at our school. The children take them out every day, and a year later they are still in great shape. I just got a second set for our other classroom because the other guide wanted one too.
Maryanne –
Totally LOVE using the baby sign language kit – so simple and my son loves doing it.
Maggie from Florida –
We got the kit a few days ago and just started signing. We are so excited. We can’t wait till our little girl starts signing with us.
Orea –
This is the best thing we did with our son. We started with a few signs when he was 30 weeks, now he knows all the flash cards, and always asks for the sign for new things. Everyone should do it.
Mia –
I only bought the kit after my 9 month old daughter was already signing. The Quickstart book was really useful, it gave me a few extra tips like how to teach foods at the dinner table. She loves the flash cards and she has already learned most of the animals. Thanks!
Marty O’Brien –
Teaching baby sign language was the best decision we made with our son. We started when he was 3 months old and he made his first sign at 5 month, but it was 8 months before he really got going. The materials in the kit were first rate. I did a lot of research before buying, and the the book had lots of great tips that I did not find anywhere else. There was lots of stuff about keeping it challenging by doing extensions. The section on modeling was also really useful and we have used that with lots of our teaching. The flash cards were a popular toy. Everytime he brought them to us to play, I felt like we had tricked him into learning. We still use them with the extension exercises in the book. The dictionary had nearly every sign we needed. It was useful later on when he started asking for less common words. Minor complaint is that it should be spiral bound so that it stays open. The wall chart was fine, but we did not use it. It was a little too big and we already knew the basic signs. It might be useful if you have a babysitter over. My mother is our sitter, and she already knows the signs. OVERALL: The best money we spend on our son, hands down. Thanks.
Mary M. –
This was a gift for my sister’s one year old to sign. The flash cards were really thick and easy for her to hold. The book answered all our questions and had lots of signs. In a few days we had her signing, and now she does it all the time. I am deducting a star, because the shipping was slow. I ordered a week before Christmas and it only got there on the 29th so I could not put it under the tree 🙁 I live in a big city, and even when I select the free shipping on Amazon, it always gets there in three days.
Jenny –
I started signing about three months ago and it has been a lot of fun. My son can do about 20 signs.
Kimberly –
I purchased the kit last month and my daughter is only 4 months old. Admittedly I was a bit skeptical, but after reading the guide I was a bit more confident. Our first sign in “Daddy” and that is because my husband comes home from work and immediately signs Daddy to our girl. She is just now 5 months old and she is signing Daddy when he comes home. We can’t believe it! I’m excited to add more signs as she develops.
