Reptile is signed by mimicking the sideways slither of a snake or the swishing of a crocodile's tail. Take your non-dominant hand and clasp your dominant wrist with it. Now take your dominant hand and form a fist while keeping your pointer finger out. Swish it back and forth, like a reptile's tail.
Reptile is signed a bit like tail, so be careful not to get these signs confused.
Teach your baby or toddler the sign for reptile when showing them various kinds of reptiles, like snakes, birds, alligators, or crocodiles, whether in picture books, on video, or live at a zoo. Even when you see the tiny lizard at home, make the sign for reptile...and let your baby marvel at how reptiles come in all shapes and sizes!
The sign for reptile is generic in nature and a good starter sign. Eventually you can introduce your baby to a variety of reptiles like turtles and snakes.
