The rocket sign is iconic. To sign rocket, first hold up your non-dominant hand vertically and facing one side of your body, as if it were a wall. Then form your dominant hand into the ASL letter R sign as you hold it parallel to the 'wall' of your other hand. Finally, launch your 'R' hand or 'rocket' up into space in a curved, squiggly motion, mimicking the staggered flight of a rocket ship as it defies Earth's gravitational pull.
Teach your baby or toddler the rocket sign when describing the rocket launch that you are witnessing on TV or reading about in a story book.
This is a useful flash card taught best in conjunction with other science or space exploration flash cards. Let your child's imagination wander free and cultivate a love for science and discovery.
